Pumpkin Pi

The third grade teachers got creative with their approach to the study of Circumference, Diameter and Pi. After measuring and recording the circumference of several pumpkins, the students measured the diameter of the cut open pumpkins and compared that number to the number they got when they divided their circumferences by 3.14. An amazing discovery! The much-loved lesson also included a reading and discussion of the book Sir Cumference and the Dragon Pi
