During a recent unit of US History, third graders studied the topic of slavery in the South. They learned that Freedom Quilts served as "maps" to guide slaves on the Underground Railroad. As a group, each class created a quilt- One quilt creatively featured a unique SCDS campus map, while another displays a historical representation of items. Students also write narratives explaining the historical patterns and student perspectives on the history of slavery in the South.
