Faculty Fellowship Program

The Lamar Kirkley Teaching Fellowship Program offers recent college graduates an opportunity to experience all aspects of teaching in an independent school. Through individual mentoring and instructional support, professional development, and community immersion, the Fellows gain valuable work and life experience. The Fellows are selected for this one-year program, which involves four components: Teaching, Connecting, Developing, and Collaborating. The fellowship program is named in honor of Lamar Kirkley, a longtime faculty member and coach, who has inspired and mentored multiple generations of students.

Main Components of the Fellowship Program

Teaching in the ClassroomFellows will be responsible for teaching 2 sections of a subject in their respective field of study. Fellows should show a strong interest and passion for knowledge and instruction.

Connecting in the CommunityFellows will engage in campus life through coaching, sponsoring clubs and arts, and attending school-wide events. Fellows will participate in enriching team-building activities to learn about the school, Savannah, and the larger community.

Developing in the ProfessionFellows are partnered with a veteran mentor teacher to help guide them through their year. Fellows will be active in observations, faculty enrichment, and curricular development to help hone their craft on a weekly basis.

Collaborating in the CohortFellows are a part of a cohort, provided with on-campus housing, compensation and benefits, lunch, and collegial support.
