The Savannah Country Day School

Service Through Knowledge and Character

Global Online Academy

"GOA affords Country Day the chance to create alliances with some of the best independent schools in the world in an attempt to broaden our student's horizons.  Through these rigorous courses--taught by faculty members at the allied schools--our students will have the opportunity to try new disciplines, explore new academic passions, and stretch themselves intellectually.  Simply put, this is an exciting new step for our students and our teachers, and a way for Country Day to extend its curriculum while closely hewing to its mission."
Tommy Crenshaw, Site Director
In 2015, Country Day entered into a partnership with Global Online Academy (GOA). GOA is a not-for-profit consortium of leading independent schools from around the world. GOA offers SCDS students the opportunity to learn alongside peers from around the world. GOA courses further enrich the Country Day experience by allowing students explore their passions with classes that are outside of the traditional course catalogue.
About Global Online Academy
The mission of Global Online Academy is to replicate in online classrooms the intellectually rigorous programs and excellent teaching that are hallmarks of its member schools; to foster new and effective ways, through best practices in online education, for students to learn; and to promote students’ global awareness and understanding by creating truly diverse, worldwide, online schoolroom communities.
Global Online Academy Member Schools
There are currently 50+ high-performing independent schools in the consortium, representing three continents, four countries, 21 states, and the District of Columbia. All GOA courses are taught by teachers who are currently teaching at a GOA member school.
About Global Online Academy Courses & Teachers
Students take GOA courses for credit at SCDS. GOA course workload and course intensity is equivalent to courses taken on our campus. Unlike many online courses, students are not passive receptors of pre-recorded lectures from their teachers. Instead, students collaborate on challenging and interesting projects with students from around the world. They are also expected to manage their workload and time effectively to support the asynchronous nature of the courses.
GOA maintains excellence through rigorous teacher training, building on the best practices and values of leading independent schools - and by ensuring classrooms stay at a small size that fosters strong teacher-student relationships and student-to-student collaboration and interaction.
With Global Online Academy, teachers and students can share their voice on a global stage, improving learning and enabling the pursuit of individual passions.
