Theatre
The Theatre Curriculum at SCDS is designed so that students will be able to recognize and appreciate the purpose of this culturally based art form while participating in it in a meaningful way.
Through the work of play reading, theatre exercises, classroom performances and fully realized productions, students explore the world, past, present and future, and the people in it. Using the media of body, breath, and voice, students come to know the work, and themselves, in a way that brings this art form into their everyday lives. The Upper School program offers students the opportunity to perform on stage in both musical and non-musical productions. The advanced class, known as The Acting Ensemble, performs within the framework of the class as well as participating twice yearly in our Fine Arts Nights. Middle School students may participate in fully staged musical and non-musical productions, as well as their twice yearly Fine Arts Nights. The Theatre Program encourages students to see the world through the eyes of the art it creates and the stories that continue to be told on the stage.
