Savannah Country Day started out with a strong defensive effort, leading to a safety.
Johnson played without starting quarterback Malachi Bacon, as the sophomore is likely to miss the rest of the season with a broken thumb, K.J. James had a 51-yard touchdown run, and senior Michael Grandy had 64 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries for the Hornets. Sophomore quarterback Barton Mixon had a touchdown pass to Brooks Kleinpeter.
The Hornet defense was led by Tyler Scott, who had four tackles for losses, and at least eight stops on the night, Cash Ramirez hit on field goal attempts of 30 and 46 yards.
SCD (4-5, 3-4) will play its final game of the season at Groves Friday.
