The Hornets secured a 33-10 Homecoming win against The Episcopal School of Jacksonville on Friday night on Saunders field.
The game started early with a back-and-forth defensive struggle. Senior Hyers Holland had a big night for the Hornets which started with a huge reception gain of 51 yards from junior QB Isaiah Batten to set up the first TD of the night.
Senior Jeremiah Brown finished the nine-play drive with a 7-yard rushing touchdown to take the early lead in the 2nd quarter. On the next offensive possession, Hyers Holland was able to break loose for a 59-yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead.
The defense was able to get pressure on the Episcopal School of Jacksonville most of the night. The Hornets defense was able to create big plays led by Senior Andrew Wynn - (6 tackles, 2 sacks, , 2 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble), junior Najee Young – (5 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 QB hurries), senior Brooks Kleinpeter-(3 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for loss, 1 fumble recovery) and junior Boone Wiesner (5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss).
The offense continued to move the ball with Hyers Holland scoring two additional touchdowns on runs of 5 yards and 39 yards. QB Isaiah Batten added a touchdown on a 7-yard run. Holland finished the night with 15 carries, 131 rushing yards, 2 catches for 59 yards and 3 rushing TD’s.
The Hornets go on the road next week to face region opponent Vidalia High School on Friday – November 1 at 7:30pm.
