Smith to Play Baseball in College

Smith is a key two-way player for the Hornets as a first baseman and pitcher. Last season, he hit .340 with a .511 on-base percentage and a .926 OPS and 30 RBIs, while logging 62 innings pitched.

"Roman is a workhorse for us as a pitcher and he does it all as a player," SCD coach Nate Ward said. "He bats in between the three and five hole for us and is a very competitive guy."

Smith said he chose Florida State College because of the relationship he developed with the coaches there.

"I think they are going to help me with my development so I'll be able to transfer to a four-year school," he said. "Now I can focus on my senior year. We've got a good team and are looking to win a region championship."
