Mrs. Blackmore's 2nd grade students got a special look into history during their study of Native American regions and cultures. The McLeod family brought in a collection of Native American artifacts for students to explore. The collection, includes items such as arrowheads, axe heads, grinding stones, and even beads made from whale bones—all discovered near the Flint and Ogeechee Rivers. The hands-on learning experience was a perfect lead-up to the class field trip to Skidaway State Park, where students learned more about Native American traditions by weaving mats, making rain sticks, and crafting necklaces. This opportunity helped deepen their understanding of the diverse Native American cultures they’re studying, adding a personal connection to their lessons.
