Coronavirus/ Return to School

Savannah Country Day School is committed to following federal, state, and local authorities as we return to campus for the 2020-21 school year. Our policies and procedures are informed by the guidance, recommendations and restrictions provided by the CDC, the Georgia Department of Health, Governor Kemp’s Executive Orders, and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL),

    As our primary focus is the safety of our students, faculty and school community, we are limiting on-campus visitors for the time being.

    Our Food Service partner, Sage, will ensure food safety, sanitation and healthy serving practices. Sage will provide individually packaged lunches. Lower School students will dine in their classrooms; Middle and Upper School students will eat lunch at distanced tables and areas throughout campus.

    All students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors must wear a mask at all times except while eating and drinking—including during drop-off and pick-up. This also includes campus sporting events, both indoor and outdoor, if distancing is not possible.

    SCDS has installed an air purification system for all campus buildings that utilizes a needlepoint bipolar ionization technology. Our cleaning service provider, JaniKing, will continue to clean the facilities on a daily basis in tandem with our Operations Team. Classroom spaces, including all desks and touchpoints, will be sanitized and wiped down between class changes. Large areas such as the gyms and the weight room will utilize a fogging system. ServePro will provide specialized deep cleaning as needed.

    All classrooms are being reconfigured and all unnecessary furniture removed in order to maximize student space. Some classes will meet in common spaces and outdoor space.

    All students and faculty are provided a desk shield for classroom use.

    Each division has designated carpool drop-offs for the morning health screening. If a student fails a morning health screening, they will be sent to the Nurses’ Office for an evaluation and will be sent home. Student drivers in Upper School will also be subject to a health screening prior to drop-off or parking.

    As maintaining distance in a multi-family carpool situation is difficult, we encourage you, if possible, to limit your carpool to immediate family. If it is not feasible, we suggest that everyone in the car wears a mask.

    We will continue to abide by the Georgia High School Association’s Coronavirus Guidance Plan for interscholastic sports and competition and to implement additional safeguards of our own.

    All student travel, including field trips and overnight retreats, are on hold.
