I was in Athens September 6-8 along with 16 fellow counselors from Georgia and seven other states for two days of conversations with admissions officers, faculty, students, staff, and President Morehead (see picture above), who hosted a reception and dinner on our first night. The UGA admissions office solicits feedback from those of us on the high school side regarding messaging, outreach, and application protocols. They also allow us to peer behind the curtain a bit into their evaluation process. For instance, we were informed that UGA will move towards a more holistic review (considering recs, essays, and activities, as well as numbers) during the EA round, especially for those students on the admit/defer and defer/deny bubbles. In the past, these decisions were almost exclusively quantitative. Insights like these allow us to offer the best possible advice for our charges applying to UGA.
