"The Lowenthal Family (Julie Donaldson Lowenthal ‘79, Corbin A. Parker ‘06, Brennan M. Lowenthal ‘12, Grayson P. Lowenthal ‘14, and Peyton Y. Lowenthal ‘18) owns and operates several restaurants in the Savannah area, including BowTie Barbecue Co and Houlihan’s. Throughout the shutdown, both restaurants remained open for curbside pick up, making sure families were able to get food if needed. BowTie Barbecue’s food truck, Beauregard’s Chariot, was able to visit neighborhoods throughout the Low Country, making sure families that were part of the shelter-in-place mandate could still get fresh hot food and not have to go far!
BowTie Barbecue also joined forces with Meals for Medicals. Jennifer Green started the group as a way to get food to hospital workers and first responders while things were crazy. Through the group, we were able to provide 1,000 meals, donating about 400 of them ourselves.
We worked with Chris Crutchley, the pastor at LifeBridge Church, to help them donate 600 meals to folks one Saturday. Our team got up early to make sure we got them 600 piping hot barbecue sandwiches and coleslaws! They had cars lined up down Montgomery Crossroad, and passed out 600 meals in under an hour!"
