On Thursday afternoon at Savannah Country Day School, senior Hornet baseball player Win Johns fulfilled a lifelong dream by signing his letter of intent to play college baseball.
Johns, a Savannah Morning News first team All Greater Savannah selection as a junior, signed on to play collegiately at Columbus State University.
“It was a surreal feeling because I’ve always wanted to sign that piece of paper,” said Johns. “I’m grateful for the (CSU) coaching staff giving me the opportunity and I’m excited to get there after finishing my senior year strong.”

He has a career batting average of .449 and has hit seven home runs in three years as a Hornet. A shortstop and pitcher for the majority of his high school career, Johns will play infield at CSU, which is considered one of the better Division II programs in the country.

But, before heading off to college, Johns says he and his SCD teammates have unfinished business to tend to. “I’ve always looked up in the gym (at SCD) and seen all of the banners for tennis, soccer, football, track and other sports but there aren’t any for baseball. We want to hang a region championship banner before we leave here.”

SCD’s senior class has compiled a record of 49-31 under head coach Dan Garofano. Johns batted .407 with a .519 on base percentage as a junior.
