Frequently Asked Questions
What is Grandparents & Special Friends Day?
This morning is set aside to honor our very special grandparents. Though not always involved in the hustle and bustle of daily school life, grandparents are a vital part of our school’s traditions and the educational experience of our students. Students who do not have a grandparent attending may choose to bring a special friend—an aunt, uncle, friend, or neighbor. Students without a special guest will participate in the day's activities with a special teacher or Country Day employee.
Can parents attend?
We would like to reserve this day for those close to your family who would not normally have an opportunity to visit our students in the classroom. The size of our Lower School classrooms and surrounding areas makes it impossible to host all students, grandparents, and parents. However, parents are welcome to attend with a guest who may need special assistance, if the guest has multiple students in grades JK through fourth, or if no other special guests are available.
My child’s guests will be driving themselves. Where should I tell them to park?
Please have all guests enter campus through the main gate. Parking will be available throughout campus, and our staff will help to direct guests to the closest possible parking area. Golf carts and shuttles will run throughout the event to transport guests. We ask that those guests who require special assistance to park in one of the carpool lanes.
I am planning to drop-off and pick-up my child’s guests. Should I use the carpool lines?
Yes, please drop your guests as close to the Lower School as possible.
How much walking is involved in the event?
There is some walking involved, as parking is sprinkled throughout campus. We will have golf carts and other transportation available, as well as reserved parking for guests using wheelchairs and walkers. The Lower School elevator can assist those visiting the third and fourth grade classrooms on the second floor of the building. We encourage guests to wear comfortable shoes.
What if a guest requires special assistance?
Reserved parking will be available in the ECLC carpool circle and the LS/MS carpool lanes for those with special needs. If your guest will require assistance in the building, please inform your child’s classroom teacher so that we can plan accordingly.
Can my child leave early that day?
Yes, we understand that many students will want to continue to spend this special day with their grandparents. Prior to the event, each parent will complete a form so we can plan accordingly.
