Saunders Field Project
Saunders Field is one of the most active and important spaces on our campus, serving a wide variety of athletic programs, physical education classes, practices, games, camps, and community events throughout the year.
With such consistent use, we are excited to transition to a synthetic turf field to provide the most reliable, high-quality surface. Turf allows our students to play more often and more safely, regardless of weather conditions.
The turf system selected for Saunders Field is a premium, third-generation product designed with student-athlete safety, comfort, and performance as top priorities.
Features include:
• a shock-absorbing base layer and longer polyethylene grass fibers that closely replicate natural grass while helping reduce the risk of injury, earning some of the highest GMAX safety ratings in the industry
• an upgraded organic cooling infill system designed to help keep the field’s surface temperatures lower, especially during warmer months
• a PFAS-free design, using natural organic infill made from coconut and cork fibers along with a blend of rubber, sand, and other plant-based materials for a safer, more environmentally friendly surface
• an advanced drainage system that improves footing, allows for quicker drying after rain, and enhances the effectiveness of the cooling system
Construction considerations:
- The Saunders Stadium lot will be closed to student parking throughout the duration of the project. To access the weight room, we ask students and coaches to park in the Lewis Leadership/Demere Gym lot.
- We anticipate completing the project by August 1, 2026.
